We Didn’t Gloss Over The Roof Problem–
We Tackled It With A Much Smarter Plan
This Roofing Job Shows How Service & Integrity
Shape Every Decision We Make
Not every roofing job in the Chicagoland area is straightforward. And not every roofer will tell you the whole truth.
Take this story, for example. We were called out to a Chicagoland home where the owners were concerned about their roof. From the street, they noticed a wavy appearance along the front slope—subtle, but not normal. Our project consultant took a look and found the real issue in the attic: mold and rot in the plywood decking, especially on the north side.
Was it winter damage? Nope.
A bathroom vent had been pushing moist air into their attic for years…
Instead of covering up the actual cause, we explained exactly what was going on, even though we knew they were on a tight budget. Then we built a solution around their real needs.
Because our sales consultants have a heart and will always opt to do the right thing.
Here’s what happened.
From Wavy Roofing Into Something Bigger
At first glance, the issue didn’t seem urgent. The shingles looked okay. They were withstanding the cold weather. No missing sections. No major storm damage. However, one day, the homeowners noticed a strange waviness along the front (north) slope, as if the roof were sagging slightly between the joists.
It was subtle, but smart homeowners pay attention to the details.
So they called us!
We sent out one of our experienced Senior Executive Consultants to investigate. He walked the exterior, got into the attic, and right away saw what other roofers might’ve missed—or ignored. The north-facing plywood decking was soft, dark, and starting to rot.
Even worse? A bathroom exhaust vent was dumping warm, humid air directly into the attic instead of being appropriately ducted to an exterior roof vent. Just years of trapped moisture feeding mold and decay from the inside out.
It wasn’t just a roof issue anymore – it was a structural issue and a health concern.
We Built A Smarter, Honest Plan
Some roofers—worried they’ll lose the sale—would’ve missed the mold issue because they want to “get in and get out.” Simply tear off the shingles, or even just go right over them, and leave the rotting plywood in place.
Not us.
We laid it all out for the homeowners, even though we knew their budget was a concern. The roof didn’t need a complete replacement yet. The south slope was still in decent shape, with shingles only about ten years old and no signs of rot or damage. So, that could stay.

So here’s the home roofing solution we proposed:
- Have the south side preventativelysprayed by a local abatement company.
- Tear off the north side where the rot was present.
- Replace plywood and install new CertainTeed roofing that matches the south slope.
That plan saved them money, protected their home, and respected their budget.
The Right Thing Isn’t Flashy, But
It’s Always Worth It
This project didn’t turn into a massive re-roof or a big-ticket sale. But that was never the goal.
What mattered most was telling the truth, even when it wasn’t convenient. We could’ve made it easier on ourselves. We could’ve skipped the attic inspection, avoided the hard conversation about mold, or upsold a complete roof replacement just to inflate the job.
Instead, we listened. We provided honest guidance and created a solution that protected the homeowners’ investment, all without pushing their budget to the breaking point.
That’s how we define service. And integrity.
It’s not just about doing great work. It’s about doing right by you.
