“We Should’ve Gone With You From The Start!”
We Hear This Time… And Time Again
Which Is Why We Were Called Back To Fix An
Avoidable, Botched Roof Installation Job
In a place as big as the Chicagoland area, there’s always someone willing to do it cheaper—especially when it comes to roofing.
But cheaper isn’t always better.
We recently bid on a custom home roofing project for a builder we’ve worked with many times before. The scope called for both asphalt fiberglass shingles and standing seam metal, which we specialize in. However, in the end, they chose another contractor.
Why? Because we were a few thousand dollars higher.
A month later, they called us back.
Shocker!
The cheaper roofer had used the wrong materials for the metal roof. And as a result? Delays. Fights. And ultimately, the roofer was fired, and we were hired. That’s right — we came in, tore out the other guy’s faulty installation, and did the job the right way — and at our original bid price.
That’s integrity. We don’t undercut quality to win jobs. We show up, stand firm, and provide the greatest roofing services in the area.
Here’s what happened.
There’s A Reason We Lost The First Bid…
And A Reason We Won In The End
When we put together our bid, we weren’t guessing.
As certified roofing pros, we reviewed the plans, walked the site, and calculated exactly what it would take to do the job right. That included the correct underlayments, proper integration between the shingle and metal sections, and the kind of materials that a metal roof needs.
Could we have trimmed a few thousand off the bid just to secure the project?
Sure. But then it wouldn’t have been the same job. It would’ve meant cutting corners—cheaper underlayments, rushed installation times, and possibly even a smaller crew.
And that’s not us. Each of the ins and outs of your roof matters.
We’ve worked with this builder before. They know what we bring to the table. But when you’re juggling budgets on a custom home, it’s tempting to roll the dice with a lower bidder. We get it.
But the gamble didn’t pay off.
The 1st Roofer Failed–We Stepped In To Do It Right
About a month after the job had started, the builder called us.
It turns out that the low bidder had used the wrong underlayments, misapplied materials, and botched the transition between the metal and shingle sections of the roof. It was exactly what we’d feared and exactly why our bid was structured the way it was.

The builder was understandably frustrated. The job was behind schedule.
And now?
They had to undo a whole chunk of work just to get back on track. However, they could no longer use the cheap roofer. So, who did they call?
Us! We honored our original bid, despite price increases that had occurred in the meantime. We did charge for the removal of the bad work, though. So it wound up costing the builder more than if he had gone with us in the first place..
For us, reliability means more than showing up. It means showing up ready to deliver the highest-caliber workmanship, even when we weren’t the first choice.
The Roof Got Done Right–Because We Did It
In exterior remodeling—especially when working with a roofing contractor—you get what you pay for.
And in this case, the builder learned that lesson the hard way.
They wanted the job done right, without cutting corners or compromising on materials. That’s what we bring to every project. Our bids aren’t inflated. They’re realistic, accurate, and built around doing things the right way. No games. No upcharges. No regrets later.
We don’t play pricing games to get in the door. We don’t change our tune once the job starts. And we don’t disappear when things get complicated.
